Claremount Road & Sandymount Green

A THRESHOLD FROM THE DODDER GREENWAY

Where Claremont Road meets Sandymount Green is another well used entrance to the core of the village. This project will define this entrance more clearly using simple landscaping and signage.

A point of arrival at Claremont Road could be a threshold to the Village from the Dodder Greenway as it passes through Sandymount at Lansdowne and Marian College. The Dodder Greenway is an active travel route that travels from as far as the Dublin Mountains to the Liffey at Grand Canal Harbour. Tapping into this green corridor has the potential to connect Sandymount from an alternate western direction.

Connection to the Village from the Dodder is not as direct as from the Sea. Sign posting will be important to orient visitors along the route from the Dodder Greenway to the Village.

This could also serve to orient those coming from Lansdowne DART station. Marking the point of arrival where Claremont connects to the Village would mark the threshold where this route enters the village. This can be achieved with simple signage, street furniture and a change in paving at the shared surface in the Village.
