Sandymount Strand is one of the most spectacular public spaces of Dublin. 

When the tide is out, the strand is bigger than the Phoenix Park - the biggest enclosed park in Europe 7.12 Square Kilometres.

As described by the Irish Conservation of Wild Birds Regulations, the inter-tidal land portion of South Bay, including the Sandymount Strand Biosphere, is an area of 7.25 Square Kilometres.

The promenade in Sandymount is enjoyed not only by residents of the area, but by huge numbers of Dubliners and visitors. The numbers of visitors are increasing year on year. People love the incredible change each day as the tide comes in close to the edge of the promenade and goes out, forming an extraordinary, flat, sand area of huge dimensions.

It is really interesting that Phoenix Park – biggest enclosed park in Europe - is 7.12 Square Kilometres - is smaller in area than Sandymount Beach! 

This gift of Nature, this inter-tidal walkable portion of the beach provides an incredible sand landscape with a vast horizon - a destination, a water park, a wild bird sanctuary, a vantage point to watch the huge rising, Harvest moon.
